EDUCATION SPECIALIST: SUPPORTING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A SELF-STUDY PACK DURING COVID-19

This consultancy focused on providing technical support, guidance and continuous review of the Self-Learning Pack scope and sequence materials, as well as designing and testing summative assessment approaches in Arabic and numeracy. The assignment encompassed aiding teachers during the pandemic, providing professional development, specifically related to the use of WhatsApp and maintaining a constructive, safe, and engaging learning environment during the transition to distance education. A research titled “The Engagement of upper-primary girls and boys in the Self-Learning Program” was conducted as part of this consultancy. Additional tasks included:

  • The review of educational plans, e.g. scopes & sequences, lesson plans, learning resources, education packs submitted by Chemonics partners, covering Arabic and Numeracy of grades 4-6.
  • The design and preparation professional development opportunities for teachers based on their needs (e.g. pros and cons of ability grouping; formative assessment; distance teaching & learning; tactics to boost core Arabic and numeracy skills)
  • The provision of input into an online learning platform for teachers
  • The design and testing of a summative assessment approach for Arabic and numeracy. Reporting on findings of the assessment.
  • Representation of Chemonics in meetings of education actors in North-East Syria
  • Coordination with the Child Protection specialist to ensure work is complementary
